Donn P. DeVita (1931-2010) was born in Scarsdale, New York. Soon after the family moved to their Connecticut farmland, where he attended Windham High School, Norwich Art School and served four years with the United States Navy in the Korean War. He received his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and his MA from Columbia University in New York.

His professional experience includes illustration for many well known authors including Bird in the Bush, by Kenneth Rexroth, published by New Directions. Other publishers include Doubleday, Crown, Benziger Brothers, Teachers College Press, Hanson Enterprises, Dutton, Frederick Fell Inc.
