A. Paul, was a resident of Provincetown, Massachusetts, and of Jacksonville Beach, Florida. He was born and educated in New York. Though his early artistic journey began under the guidance of Joan Lord, schooled in the Rembrandt technique of underpainting with oil glazing,,

A. Paul continued his studies with several Provincetown master artists, including Joan Perreira, Rob Longley, and Anne Packard. His early realism brushwork gave way to palette knife impasto painting, the mainstay of his latter artistic career.

His love for the diversity of the streets, the light of Provincetown skies, and beauty of the landscape of the Cape and Jacksonville Beach often served as the the subjects of his artwork spanning vibrant florals and energetic seascapes to black and white urban scenes.
