Donald Cecil Totten

Donald Cecil Totten (1903 - 1967) was active/lived in California, South Dakota.  Donald Totten is known for Modernist painting of portraits and abstraction, murals.

Born in Vermillion, SD on Aug. 13, 1903. After graduating from Long Beach (CA) Polytechnic High School, Totten attended USC for one year, Otis Art Institute, and the ASL of Los Angeles. He received early inspiration from his teacher Stanton MacDonald-Wright.

During the 1930s he painted murals for the Federal Art Project in Pasadena's Grant School, the Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles, and was James Redmond's assistant on the murals in the Compton Post Office. He later taught at Barnsdall Arts & Crafts Center (Los Angeles) for ten years as well as Marymount College (Palos Verdes), UCLA Extension, and Inglewood Adult High School.

Totten died in Long Beach, CA on Oct. 29, 1967.

His works include semi-abstract landscapes, portraits, and abstracts.
