Gustave Surand (1860 - 1937) was active/lived in France.  Gustave Surand is known for Wildlife painting.

Gustave Paul Alexandre Surand was born in Paris and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts under the guidance of Jean-Paul Laurens. A versatile artist, he dedicated himself to oil painting, pastel and sculpture, he often portrayed large wild animals, masterfully capturing the moment in which the animal prepares to jump, highlighting the defined muscles of the large cats which gradually become the his favorite subject. Already at the age of 29, for the Universal Exhibition in Paris, he painted a large canvas entitled The Crucified Lions, evoking feline ferocity. From 1881 he began to exhibit at the Salon des Artistes Français, obtaining an honorable mention three years later. He also participated in the exhibitions of 1889 and 1900, winning a silver medal with the painting Saint George and the Dragon. Although known primarily as a genre painter, Surand demonstrated a great sensitivity to nature, atmospheric variations and contrasts of light.
