Billy Stockman Tjapaltjarri

Billy Stockman Tjapaltjarri (c. 1927 - 2015) was active/lived in Australia.  Billy Tjapaltjarri is known for Aboriginal art painting, Dreaming images, murals.

ARTIST BIO: " Billy Stockman Tjapaltjarri was born around 1927 at Mount Denison, near Yuendumu, Northern Territory but sadly passed away in September 2015. Billy was the Cousin of renowned artist Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, who he grew up with after being raised by his aunt from age 11, as Billy’s mother was killed in the Coniston massacre. 

Billy began painting in the Papunya Tula art movement in the early 1970’s, and was the artist behind the ‘Honey Ant Dreaming’ mural on the wall of the school. In addition, Billy was named one of the first chairmen of Papunya Tula. 

Billy’s dreaming is most often portrayed in his work’s as ‘Men’s Dreaming’, representing the sacred sites only accessible by the men of that community. 

His artistic career took off and in 1988, he traveled to New York City to open the ‘Dreamings’ exhibition, in which his works were showcased. Billy’s use of whites, blacks and browns in the forefront of his works are further enhanced   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 3131 characters.]  Artist bio
