Frank Dolejska

Frank Dolejska (1921 - 1989) was active/lived in Texas.  Frank Dolejska is known for Painting, sculpture.

Frank Dolejska was born in Houston, Texas on February 25, 1921; he died in Houston on May 30, 1989.  He was the first generation child of immigrant parents: Father - Austria-Hungary, Mother - Moravia.  Dolejska, along with Robert Preusser, were two of the first non-objective painters in Texas, with early works dating from 1938.  Basically self-taught, Dolejska was a student with McNeill Davidson for a brief period.  After serving in World War 2, Dolejska returned to Houston where he became the curator for the new organization, the Contemporary Arts Association.  Leaving the CAA in 1956, Dolejska took up metal work, creating sculptures with copper and lead.  His early paintings are rare because he burnt many of them.
