Lucy Agnes Flannigan

Lucy Agnes Flannigan (c. 1870 - 1934) was active/lived in Massachusetts / Italy.  Lucy Flannigan is known for Paintings of buildings in floral settings, Italian countryside scenes.

Lucy Flannigan was born circa 1870 in Boston, and died 1934 in Rome. She received a scholarship from the Boston Art Academy to study in Rome, and arrived in Capri around 1894 (Soria), and remained there until her death.

The date of arrival is questionable based on an award received in Boston from the Brush and Pencil Club in 1899.

In Italy she lived until her death in 1934 at the Weber Strand pension at the benefit of the owner Agusto Weber. She was also supported for a time by Margret Mather and taught Carol Mather painting in a rented studio by the beach, around 1903-04. Mather's daughters were descendants of Cotton Mather, witchcraft prosecutor in early New England. 

Flannigan sold none of her paintings because she could not bear to part with them. Although she was an attractive woman. she apparently had no suitors.
