Adolfo Estrada

Adolfo Estrada (1927 - 2020) was active/lived in California / Spain.  Adolfo Estrada is known for Figure, female nude, still life, landscape painting.

Adolfo Estrada was born on December 27, 1927 to Spanish parents in San Jose, California who moved the family  back to Santander, Spain.  

Estrada started formal art training at The School of Arts & Crafts in Santander and soon made illustrations for the newspaper Alerta.  He became involved in the movements of the magazine Proel, the Escuela de Altamira and the exhibitions of the gallery named “Sur”.  Adolfo drew close to the leading figures of the cultural life of Santander.  He was most influenced by the Cuban born painter Pancho Cossío (1898-1970) and the poet José Hierro (1922-2002).  Others he met at Escuela de Altamira were Angel Ferrant, Llorenç Artigas, Cuixart, Tápies and Joan Miró (among many others).  Estrada, only twenty-two at the time, was observing artists who were moving toward, either abstraction or committed social painting.  He made no theoretical choice at the time but Cossio's influence became evident in Est   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 4426 characters.]  Artist bio
