Lang was a landscape, portrait and genre painter. The artist first studied architecture at the Academy in Berlin. Switched to painting in 1870.

The artist then studied at the academies in Munich and Karlsruhe. From 1874-1888, the artist lived in Florence, and from 1888-1897 in Frankfurt am Main  The artist was then based in Munich.

His works are in various German museums.
