Barry Tinsley

Barry Tinsley (Born 1942) is active/lives in Illinois.  Barry Tinsley is known for Sculptor-monumental installation.

Born in Roanoke, Virginia, Barry Tinsley is a sculptor of large-scale, brightly painted steel sculptures, many of them with what appear to be paper cut- out shapes. He has exhibited his work at the Pier Walk in Chicago and has a piece, "Potawatomi Crossing," in the Art Enterprises, Ltd. sculpture park located in Sawyer, Michigan. This work refers to the Potawatomi tribe that once inhabited the area.

Tinsley was raised in Roanoke, Virginia and frequently accompanied his father, a road master for Norfolk and Western Railway, to work. In this job he was in charge of the steel tracks, and this material has held fascination for Tinsley ever since.

In addition to museum collections, his work is owned by the McDonald's Corporation of New York, Borg-Warner Corporation of Chicago, and Dayton Hudson Properties of Minnesota.

Tinsley earned an MFA from the University of Iowa in 1968, and settled with his family in Oak Park, Illinois.
