Charles Lebrun

Charles Lebrun (1619 - 1690) was active/lived in France.  Charles Lebrun is known for Painting, furniture design.

Charles Le Brun was the son of a sculptor and is said to have made sketches in his cradle. He was born in Paris, France on February 24, 1619. When he was not yet fifteen, he won the patronage of the chancellor who later sent him to Rome to study with the expatriate classicist Poussin.

When he returned to France he helped organize the Royal Academy, became its rector and began to tighten his grip on the new generation of painters and decorators. Louis XIV granted Le Brun the articles of nobility in 1662 and put him in charge of redecorating the Louvre.

He spent a decade designing the Hall of Mirrors and the Galleries of War and Peace, planning the garden statuary and constructing the stairways. Among other things he found time to follow the royal retinue on military campaigns abroad.
