David (Dudu) Gerstein

David (Dudu) Gerstein (Born 1944) was active/lived in Israel.  David Gerstein is known for Painting and sculpture.

Born in Jerusalem in 1944, Israeli Artist David Gerstein studied at the renowned Bezalel Art School in Jerusalem. After this Gerstein studied École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, the Art Students League in New York and St. Martins School of Art in London. Gerstein’s style can best be described as his own approach to a kind of second generation pop art that began with his artwork from the 1960s.

Inspired by artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, he began creating 2 dimensional paintings and then developed a 3-dimensional approach to sculpture utilizing laser cut steel. The colors that Gerstein applies to his sculpture are vibrant and lively creating a kind of animation to his artwork.

He is known for portraying everyday events and actions of humans, allowing any person to relate and identify with his designs. Gerstein’s style can best be described as his own approach to a kind of second generation pop art that began with his artwork from the 1960s.

David Gerstein was born in Jerusalem in 1944.  He initially studied in Israel and later attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, the Art Students League of New York and St. Martins School of Art in London. Since the 1960s, Gerstein has been developing his own unique style.  In contrast to the prevailing minimalist and conceptualist tendencies, he created figural sculptures made of metal, which he enlivened by colorful painting.  A central theme in the artist's oeuvre has always been mankind and modern urban life.  Today Gerstein is one of the best known and most popular artists in Israel.  In addition to his wall sculptures he also conceived numerous works for public spaces.  And his works have been exhibited internationally. David Gerstein was born in Israel.  He studied at the Bezalel Academy, Jerusalem, Israel; the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux Arts, Paris, France; the Art Students League, New York, USA; St. Martin's School of Art, London, England from 1965 to 1974.

His works have been exhibited in galleries and art museums in different countries.
