David Pugh

David Pugh (1946 - 1994) was active/lived in Alberta, Saskatchewan / Canada.  David Pugh is known for Fauve landscape, rural scene, animal and figure painting, drawing.

A painter and draftsman, David Pugh was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and raised in Calgary, Alberta. He died in Canmore, Alberta. His mediums were oils, acrylics, graphite and pencil. His primary subjects were landscapes, the Rocky Mountains, rivers, lakes, rural scenes, animals, tree studies and figures. His style was Fauvism*. AskART has many excellent illustrations of his oeuvre.

His education included a year at the University of Calgary (1968) and a few years of travelling throughout Canada and the USA to look at art (c.1968 - 1970). He is considered a self taught artist. He began painting fulltime in the late 1960s and for the rest of his life earned his livelihood painting and drawing.

In 2005, Pugh's painting of the Bow River was included in the exhibition "Rhythm and Change: The Bow in Contemporary Art" at the Glenbow Museum, Calgary, Alberta.
