Esther Longyear Murphy McGraw

Esther Longyear Murphy McGraw (1882 - 1934) was active/lived in United States.  Esther Longyear McGraw is known for Painting.

Esther Longyear Murphy McGraw (1882-1934) was an early member of the Detroit Society of Women Painters and Sculptors. She joined the group in 1910 and was president of that organization from 1918 through 1929. 

Before she was twenty years old Esther studied art at the Sorbonne, Paris, France. There she had to learn drawing for many months before she was allowed to use her favorite medium, oil. Later she studied for several years a the John P. Wicker School of Art in Detroit.

McGraw's work was regularly accepted for the Scarab Club, Detroit, exhibitions.  She continued to exhibit her paintings and was a consistent prize winner and exhibitor at the National Academy of Art, New York City, and at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia.
