Floyd Copeland Chandler

Floyd Copeland Chandler (1920 - 1995) was active/lived in California.  Floyd Chandler is known for Western landscape painting, illustration, etching.

The following information was found on the back of a painting by Frank Copeland Chandler:

"Born in San Diego, California, living there 1974.  Realistic Western landscape painter, commercial artist, teacher.  Work in Jerome Historical Society, Arizona.

Chandler began studying art at the san Diego AFA at the age of seven and in 1939 studied at Otis AI in LA.  After WWII service in the Coast Guard he studied at he ASL 1946-50, the pupil of DuMond, and remained in NYC until 1954 as a commercial illustrator.  In 1955 Chandler began teaching in the adult division of San Diego school, while also earning his own BA in art is 1964 and his MA in 1969.

In 1970 Chandler completed nine paintings of the copper mining ghost town Jerome, Arizona.  Sic of these were published in AHI in May of 1972.  In 1971, 12 paintings were completed on Miami and Globe, Arizona for AHI and published in October of 1973.  In 1972, 12 oils we   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 2287 characters.]  Artist bio

The following information was found on the back of a painting by Frank Copeland Chandler:

"Born in San Diego, California, living there 1974.  Realistic Western landscape painter, commercial artist, teacher.  Work in Jerome Historical Society, Arizona.

Biography from ArtSanDiego

Floyd Copeland Chandler (1920-1995) was born in San Diego, California on November 5, 1920.  Chandler began painting in watercolor at a very early age.   By 1930 he was exhibiting his work locally.

His earliest teachers were Otto Schneider and Pauline DeVol at the San Diego Academy of Fine Arts.   He later studied at the Otis Art Institute and in New York City at the Art Student's League.

For a while he headed the Desert Sun School in Idyllwild, California.  He also taught art at San Diego Community College for many years.

His works were exhibited widely throughout San Diego and Southern California.  They are held in the Jerome, Arizona Historical Society, and once featured in Arizona Highways Magazine.

Floyd Copeland Chandler died in San Diego, California on November 14, 1995.
