Franz Grabmayer

Franz Grabmayer (Born 1927) is active/lives in Austria, Germany.  Franz Grabmayer is known for Non-objective painting.

Franz Grabmayr, (1927 Pfaffenberg - 2015 Wien) Franz Grabmayr is considered the "father" of the Austrian Junge Wilden and painter of the four elements. He spent his childhood, which he describes as very happy in his own words, in the countryside in Carinthia, and shapes his deep connection to nature. At the age of twelve, he began to paint his first watercolor paintings, but later worked as a teacher and taught mathematics and descriptive geometry. A first successful exhibition at the Künstlerhaus Klagenfurt "Young Carinthian Talents", 1952, awakened his desire for professional training and led him to the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, where he studied under Robin Christian Andersen. In 1956 he travelled to Paris, London and Amsterdam, where he studied the works of Cezanne and Rembrandt in particular. Cézanne remains one of his most important role models throughout his life.
