Franz Richard Unterberger

Franz Richard Unterberger (1838 - 1902) was active/lived in Belgium, Austria.  Franz Unterberger is known for Italian landscape painting.

Franz Richard Unterberger is best known for his works of colorful, romantic, Italian views.  He was born on August 15, 1838 in Innsbruck, which at that time was part of Switzerland.  He studied at the Academy of Munich, with Albert Zimmerman, at Weimar, and under Andreas Achenbach at Düsseldorf. 

He lived in Brussels in 1860 where he was influenced by the Belgian school and later visited southern France and Italy, most notably Naples, where some of his best known works are known to have been painted.  He traveled to Norway, England, Denmark and exhibited in Vienna, other Continental cities and various Continental museums such as  Louviers, Gallerie Roussel (Amalfi, Gulf of Salerno), Troyes (The Isle of Capri), and Melbourne, Australia, (Gulf of Salermo).  He received the Order of Francis Joseph medal and died at Neuilly-sur-Seine on May 25, 1902.
