Friedrich Meier

Friedrich Meier (1790 - 1815) was active/lived in Germany.  

Friedrich Meier was a painter who lived in the early 19th century. He was born in an unknown year and place, and died in the Battle of Ligny in 1815 at the age of 30. Meier initially studied philosophy but later turned to painting and went to Dresden for an apprenticeship. He mainly worked as a portraitist and associated with notable figures such as Kleist, Varnhagen von Ense, and Jean Paul. Meier painted Jean Paul's portrait during a visit to Bayreuth, which was highly praised by the poet. Meier executed several more ordered repetitions of the portrait. One of the copies was acquired by the Berlin National Gallery in 1935. The text also mentions other copies owned by different individuals
