Georg Pauli

Georg Pauli was a Swedish painter and writer who was active in Sweden, France and Italy.  He began studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm in the 1870s and then continued his studies at the Académie Julian *in Paris. He was strongly inspired by the French realist artists and outdoor painters, which came to characterize most of his art.

Pauli was very passionate and concerned about the creation and development of his artistic style. This took him on further journeys and in the 1880s he left for Italy. His desire was to deepen his knowledge of the monumental works and frescoes of the Renaissance. This significant period for Pauli laid the foundation for many distinctive murals he later created in Sweden.

Pauli was in France 1882 - 1886 and spent a period in the Scandinavian artist colony in Grez-sur-Loing outside Paris where the artist Jules Bastien-Lepage was a great source of inspiration for him.
