George Thompson Pritchard

George Thompson Pritchard (1878 - 1962) was active/lived in California / United Kingdom, New Zealand.  George Thompson Pritchard is known for Landscape-snow, marine and floral painting, teaching.

Biography provided by artist's grand-niece Hillary Volk Matawan, NJ:
George Thompson Pritchard (1878-1962), who migrated to the US from New Zealand. GTP primarily painted seascapes and landscapes. He became a teacher after settling in California.

Jane Wilcox was the name that he used for still life and florals when producing paintings for the NY art houses affiliated with department store sellers. I vividly remember my mother telling the story of how he would work on several paintings at a time in the basement of their house with the Victrola playing classical music and turned on loud.  She would sit at the top of the stairs and watch him at his easels. He was a colorful figure, as were most of the Pritchards, and would regale them with tales of his forays to other countries to learn from masters and the great art of Europe.
