Gerard Hordyk

Gerard Hordyk (1899 - 1958) was active/lived in New York / Netherlands.  Gerard Hordyk is known for Genre, figure, illustrator, mural.

Gerard Hordijk was born in The Hague in 1899 and died in Amsterdam in 1958). This almost forgotten Dutch artist differed greatly in style, subjects and views from the painters who joined this famous art movement at the time, the so-called “De Stijl”. But there is a link between Hordijk and “De Stijl”. In 1927, when Hordijk was in Paris, he lived together with the famous artist Piet Mondriaan (who was one of the founders of “De Stijl”, in the studio complex on the Rue du Départ in Paris. In that year he made a portrait of Piet Mondrian. The two painters became close and lifelong friendship. Despite years of friendship with Piet Mondriaan, abstract stylistic features have never taken hold of Gerard Hordijk's painting. His work remained figurative throughout his career.
