Gerhard Ausborn

Ausborn's profound painterly skill is demonstrated in the combination of abstract elements with the wasteland that appears like a perfectly constructed lunar landscape. Volcanic craters, ice fields, and cracks in the earth's soil combine to create a dreamlike, uninhabited land. Ausborn's teachers at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg from 1953 to 1956 included Ernst Wilhelm Nay, Conrad Westpfahl, Hans Thiemann, Rolf Cavael and Hann Trier.


1956-59 he lived and worked in Paris. In 1960 he won the Hamburg Lichtwark scholarship. He traveled extensively.
