Gustavo Montoya

Gustavo Montoya (1905 - 2003) was active/lived in Mexico.  Gustavo Montoya is known for Child portrait, genre and still life painting, murals, posters.

Gustavo Montoya (1905-2003)

Born in Mexico City July 9th, 1905 and died the 9th of July 2003, at 98 years.  He was one of the most important artists of the Escuela Mexicana de Pintura (Mexican School Artists), especially the "Easel Painting" of the Mexican Neoealism of the 20th century.

A teacher at the Academia de San Carlos (the most important school of arts) for  more than thirty years -the same place he studied at in the 20´s-, which produced artists like German Gedovius, Roberto Montenegro, Leandro Izaguirre, Mateo Herrera, Eduardo Solares, Juan M. Pacheco and Francisco de la Torre and others.

A versatile artist, Montoya was known as poliform expression searcher (figurative to academic and to abstract), going through modern style painting to abstract.  In his long painting life, he only made ten lithograph and eight silk-screen artworks editions of his world wide known Mexican kids.
