Heinrich Schlief

Heinrich Schlief (1894 - 1971) was active/lived in Germany.  Heinrich Schlief is known for Newspaper artist, expressionist mixed-media landscape painting.

Heinrich Schlief (born January 7, 1894 in Soest, † July 13, 1971) was an artist of Westphalian Expressionism.
He was born in 1894 in the Westphalian Hanseatic city of Soest. His father was the haulage contractor Mathias Schlief, his cousin the locally known blacksmith Bernhard Schlief.

As a child, Heinrich originally wanted to be a teacher, but was directed by his elementary school teacher towards the technical field, so he worked at the State Building Office and the Cultural Office in Soest.
In the following years he became interested in painting. When he saw Christian Rohlfs in 1907 and in 1909 met the Soest Expressionist* Wilhelm Morgner, he finally decided to become a painter.

During the First World War, he was employed as a divisional painter and press artist for the division newspaper 236 On the Western Front.
