Hjalmar Munsterhjelm

Hjalmar Munsterhjelm (1840 - 1905) was active/lived in Finland.  Hjalmar Munsterhjelm is known for Painting.

Magnus Hjalmar Munsterhjelm was the first Finnish artist to complete his training at a German academy, but one of the many Scandinavians to learn landscape painting in this country.  He was a sailor before enrolling at the academy in Düsseldorf from 1860-1865, studying under Oswald Achenbach, among others.  He continued his training is Karlsruhe, first at the academy, and then as a private pupil of H. F. Gude, who had also been one of his teachers in Düsseldorf.
