Howard Joseph Brodie

Howard Joseph Brodie (1916 - 2010) was active/lived in California, Illinois / Asia.  Howard Brodie is known for Combat, newspaper sports and courtroom artist.

Howard Joseph Brodie was born in Oakland, CA on Nov. 28, 1916.  Brodie studied at the California School of Fine Arts and at the Art Students League in New York City. He took his first job in the art department of the San Francisco Chronicle in 1935. 

During WWII he was awarded a Bronze Star for valor and became famous for his combat sketches which appeared in Life, Look, and other national magazines.  He returned to the Chronicle in 1953.  Upon retirement, he settled in San Miguel, CA.  He died in Monterey County, CA on Sept. 12, 2010. 

Exhibited: 
San Jose State College, 1947; Library of Congress, 1951. 

Works held:
 Huntington Library (San Marino); Library of Congress; Air Force Academy (C0).
