Jacques Louis Bonet

Jacques Louis Bonet was a Belgian painter.  He was the son of a miller based in Grand-Manil near Gembloux. He learned painting from Ferdinand Marinus at the Academy of Namur, but his true master was portrait painter François-Joseph Navez, a teacher at the Brussels Academy.

Bonet died in Belgrade, a town on the outskirts of Namur where he spent more than thirty years of his life.  At his internment in his family vault, many distinguished persons spoke:

    •    Balat, the director of the Industrial School, began by recalling the role the deceased played in the birth, in the early 1860s, and in the further development of this institution of social promotion where he served.
