Jan Skotnicki

Jan Skotnicki (1876 - 1968) was active/lived in Poland.  

Jan Skotnicki was a visual artist and political activist from Poland. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg and Kraków, and later in Paris. Skotnicki co-founded the "Sztuka Podhalanska" society and the "Kilim" workshops in Zakopane. He was appointed a member of the Council of State in 1918 and fought in the 2nd Brigade of Legions during the independence fights. Skotnicki was the director of the Department of Culture and Art at the Ministry of Religious Denominations and Public Education from 1922 to 1929. He was present during the attempted death and death of President Gabriel Narutowicz in 1922. Skotnicki's work ranged from oil to watercolor, and he also created graphics. He was known for his figural scenes with historical and military themes, landscapes, and portrait painting. Skotnicki had several exhibitions of his works, including a retrospective exhibition in 1940.
