Jean-Achille Benouville

Jean-Achille Benouville (1815 - 1891) was active/lived in Italy, France.  Jean Achille Benouville is known for Landscape painting.

From 1837, Achille Bénouville attended the École des Beaux-Arts and became a student of Léon Cogniet and François-Édouard Picot.  His first paintings were landscapes around Paris and Fontainebleau, later he turned to the subject of historical landscapes. 

This was followed by several trips to Italy, as well as a four-year scholarship at the Villa Massimo.  In Rome Bénouville collaborated with Camille Corot.  The Italian landscape became Bénouvilles main motive.  He has also has been awarded the Prix de Rome and exhibited regularly in the Paris salons.
