Jean Baptiste Verdier

Jean Baptiste Verdier (1889 - 1976) was active/lived in France.  Jean Verdier is known for Realist floral still-life painting, teaching.

Jean Verdier was born in Paris in 1889. He came from a family of distinguished painters, military and church leaders. Naturally his early influences and interests were of painting and teaching. He was named after his uncle, His Eminence Jean Cardinal Verdier, Cardinal-Archbishop of Paris.    
 
From 1904 to 1913, he studied successively at he Ecole d'Art Applique, the Academie Julian and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. During his years of study from 1909-1913, he received four Diplomas of Professor of Drawing, qualifying him to teach art at a college level.

During World War I, he dedicated himself to the military temporarily leaving his art. His war record was distinguished, and he was honored with the Croix de Guerre and the Military Medal. Despite serious war injuries, he resumed his teaching and held a succession of professorships from 1916 to 1945.
