A prominent avant-garde* Quebec painter, draftsman*, art educator and a leading figure of abstract art in Quebec, Frere Jerome Paradis (né Joseph Ulric-Aimé Paradis until 1918; aka: Frere Jerome; aka: Ulric Guy Paradis; aka: Brother Jerome) was born in Charlesbourg, Quebec and died in Laval, Quebec (a suburb of Montreal). He was an associate of Paul Emile Borduas and a teacher of Jean-Paul Mousseau and Claude Vermette. Paradis’s works are in the permanent collections of the Joliette Art Museum (Quebec), the Quebec Museum of Fine Arts (Quebec City), and the Sherbrooke Museum of Fine Arts (Quebec). (1)(2)

His mediums included oils, acrylics, gouache, watercolors, pastels, ink, lithography and mixed mediums. His works were mostly abstractions, the subjects being: color, shape, line and texture.
