John Arthur Bargquist

John Arthur Bargquist (1889 - 1966) was active/lived in Illinois.  John Bargquist is known for Magazine illustration, landscape and portrait painting.

John Arthur Bargquist, an illustrator and artist, was born in Chicago, Illinois on Oct. 14, 1889.  A second-generation descendant of Swedish immigrants, Bargquist studied at the Chicago Art Institute.

Bargquist inherited his artistic talent from his father, John August Bargquist, who went from logging trees in Sweden to carving wood tables in the United States, and from his mother, Ida Matilda, who was a quilter.

Bargquist spent nearly his entire career as an illustrator for Popular Mechanics Magazine in Chicago.  His fine art includes landscapes and portraits done in watercolor and oil.  His landscapes depict the Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Missouri countryside, as well as scenes of Chicago and Lake Michigan.

He died on Oct. 3, 1966, in Chicago.
