Joy Flinsch (Margaret) Buba

Joy Flinsch (Margaret) Buba (1904 - 1998) was active/lived in New York, North Carolina.  Joy Buba is known for Sculpture, landscape and portrait painting, children's book illustration.

The following information is from Mary Scriver, wife of artist Bob Scriver (1914-1999).

Joy Buba was part of a New York City community that included Malvina Hoffman, who was her good friend. Joy came to  Browning, Montana, in the Sixties to make portraits of Blackfeet Indians. 

Both used The Bob Spring's Foundry in New York for bronze casting. 

Buba and Hoffman were members of the National Sculpture Society and recommended Bob Scriver for membership. The group originated in the Beaux Arts style of Paris and remained focused on representation rather than abstraction. 

Joy made several outstanding busts, which Bob Scriver transferred into plaster for her.  She kept beguiling journals of colored pencil sketches and notes when she traveled.

Joy illustrated children's books by Herbert S. Zim, notably Elephants, Rabbits and Goldfish.
