Kamil Mackiewicz

Kamil Mackiewicz (1885 - 1931) was active/lived in Poland.  

The artist, Kamil Mackiewicz, was born in 1887 and studied art in Moscow and at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts under Konrad Krzyzanowski. He completed his studies in London and New York. During World War I, he served as an officer in the Russian army and was held as a prisoner of war by the Germans. After the war, he returned to Warsaw and worked for Krzyzanowski's private School of Painting and Drawing. He participated in the Polish-Bolshevik war of 1920 and made propaganda materials for the Central Propaganda Committee. He left New York around 1923 and lived in Warsaw for the rest of his life, spending the last three years with Józef Tyszkiewicz at the Dusmieowicze estate. He was known for his hunting and storytelling and traveled extensively. He collaborated with numerous magazines and illustrated many books for adults and children. He often depicted war, military, and hunting in his drawings and illustrations.
