Ludvig Munthe

Ludvig Munthe (1841 - 1896) was active/lived in Germany, Norway.  Ludvig Munthe is known for Landscape painting.

The Norwegian painter, Ludwig Munthe was born on March 11, 1841 and was initially the pupil of Franz Wilhelm Schiertz in Bergen.  From 1861 he studied at the Düsseldorf Academy, yet he was mainly self-taught.

With predilection he painted beach scenes with fishermen as staffage and melancholic winter landscapes with a broad horizon derived from the surroundings of Düsseldorf.  Munthe’s works are exhibited among others at the Oslo National Gallery, the National Museum in Stockholm, the National Gallery in Berlin and the Kunsthalle in Mannheim.
