Mary Frances Overbeck

Mary Frances Overbeck (1878 - 1956) was active/lived in Indiana.  Mary Overbeck is known for Pottery-decoration and whimsical animal design.

Mary Frances Overbeck was one of the four Overbeck sisters who founded the Overbeck Pottery studio in Cambridge City, Indiana in 1911. The sisters created high quality decorative arts and unlike traditional pottery manufacturers they did all of the work themselves. They made their products in a basement workshop, designed and decorated in a room off their dining room and fired in an outbuilding on their property.

Mary Frances attended the Indiana State Normal School and studied under her sister Margaret.  She went to New York and studied with Arthur Wesley Dow at Columbia University and Marshal T Fry.

She taught school in Boulder, Colorado; Centerville and Cambridge City, Indiana.  She was well know for designing bookplates, and all her career painted in oils and watercolors.
