Max Ferguson

Max Ferguson (Born 1959) is active/lives in New York.  Max Ferguson is known for Photo realist cityscapes.

The youngest of four children in a secular family, Ferguson grew up in the heart of heavily Jewish Woodmere, Long Island.  Almost from the start, he dabbled in the visual arts.  When he was twelve, he began drawing animated films.  At nineteen he went to Amsterdam to study animation, but instead spent a lot of time at the Rijksmuseum.  Deeply influenced by Rembrandt and Vermeer, Ferguson began painting seriously. For a while, Ferguson's pieces had a pseudo-European look, which was unavoidable after living there.

Realism is the style that lends itself best to which he's trying to do, which is to document the sights and soul of a rapidly disappearing New York City.  He is a great believer that the closer art is to life - all art - the better people can relate to it.
