Recently, How magazine named him as one of the "Twelve Most Influential Designers Today."

In 2002, McMagleby was selected to create the first Cultural Olympiad poster by the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the Olympic Winter Games of 2002 (SLOC). Magleby's design was the first in a series of posters commissioned by SLOC to celebrate the 2002 Cultural Olympiad.

In 2002, McMagleby was selected to create the first Cultural Olympiad poster by the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the Olympic Winter Games of 2002 (SLOC). Magleby's design was the first in a series of posters commissioned by SLOC to celebrate the 2002 Cultural Olympiad.

McRay Magleby is one of the world's gifted poster artists," said Raymond T. Grant, SLOC Director of Arts and Culture. "To have this Utah-based and world-recognized artist to champion culture as an integral part of the Games seems especially fitting.

Additionally, in commemoration of the 100-year anniversary of the Utah Governor's Mansion, and in partnership with the Utah Division of State History, Magleby was commissioned to create a design that will be carved in the sculptural decoration of the mansion's third floor east facade. The carving will be executed by artisans from State Stone, Inc. and will be unveiled at a ceremony at the Governor's Mansion on Nov. 23, 1999. O.C. Tanner, an official supplier of the 2002 Games, will use the design to create a limited-edition Olympic pin in silver and a limited-edition collector's art piece made from the mansion's oolitic limestone.

Magleby's work is known worldwide. His Wave of Peace poster, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima, and his Utah Statehood Centennial Stamp with its rendering of the Delicate Arch have become icon images recognized by millions. Design professionals from 40 countries voted Wave of Peace the Most Memorable Poster in the World in 1986.

Magleby is a graduate of the University of Utah and served for 27 years as director of the Brigham Young University Press. While in this position, he and his staff produced hundreds of award-winning publications.

In 1985, Magleby was selected to receive the University of Utah Distinguished Teacher Award and in 1986 he was named Designer of the Decade by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. Magleby was recently named by HOW magazine as one of the 12 Most Influential Designers Today.
