Modeste Huys

Modeste Huys (1875 - 1932) was active/lived in Belgium.  Modeste Huys is known for Landscape painting.

Modest Huys was born in the Belgian town Olsene in 1874.  He first learned in the workshop of his father and then took drawing classes at the Gewerbeschule in Ghent.  From 1890 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp under Joseph Coosemans, Eugène Yoors and Frans van Leemputten.  The painter Emil Claus, also the co-founder of the artist group "Vie et Lumière", had major influence on his art. 

Huys preferred plein air painting and mostly created narrative landscapes in the style of the Belgian post-impressionist movement called Luminism.  Since 1908 the artist has been represented at national and international exhibitions.  Huys died in 1932.
