Philip Raskin

Philip Raskin (Born 1947) is known for Sea painting.

Philip Raskin was born in 1947 and studied at the Glasgow School of Art in the 1960s. He left art school to enter the business world after his father's death and became the proprietor of The Inn on the Green, a celebrated jazz restaurant in Glasgow, for 20 years. During this time, he continued to run art exhibitions and openings within the venue. In the 1990s, he returned to painting full time and has since become a successful artist with a unique style that combines heavy impasto application with delicate brush strokes. He mainly focuses on landscape painting, drawing inspiration from the islands of the west coast of Scotland. His work captures the essence and light of the landscapes, featuring rugged shorelines, dramatic seascapes, and ever-changing skies. He aims to create private places for the viewer to own and enjoy, without people, houses, or telegraph poles. He currently lives and works from his studio just outside Glasgow.
