Raymond Kanelba

Raymond (Rajmund) Kanelba (1897 - 1960) was active/lived in New York / Poland.  Raymond Kanelba is known for Modernist female portrait, child figure and still life painting.

Kanelba joined the Academy of Fine Arts of Warsaw in 1918. He took the classes of Stanislas Lentz and T. Pruszkowski. After a stay in Vienna, he arrived in Paris in 1926 joining the Montparnasse group of artists. He traveled frequently to Pont-Aven.

He exhibited in Paris Salons as well as in London, Edinborough, Glasgow, Berlin, Bordeaux, Brussels, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia.

During the WW2 Kanelba lived in Great Britain. He painted landscapes, still lives, nudes and portraits, especially mastering women and children studies. In fifties Kanelba made a portrait of the Queen Elisabeth II.   His paintings give an impression of both clearness and blur at the same time due the inaccuracy of the outlines. Kanelba progressively abandoned the blue and pink monochromes of his early years and adopted a more contrasted palette of colours.
