Robert Swaim (1848-1918):

Born in Indiana, Robert Swaim was teaching painting in Logansport, Indiana by 1880.  By 1893 he was in Helena, Montana.  The Chicago World Book Company in 1893 published a book on the State exhibitions at The World's Columbian Exhibition in Chicago and on page 58 in the Montana section it states:  "Perhaps the most popular artist in this State is Mr. Robert Swaim, of Helena, but the one deserving special notice is Mr. C. Russell, generally known as the Cowboy artist."
