Artist Biography & Facts
Roberto Donis

Roberto Donis (1934 - 2008) was active/lived in Mexico.  Roberto Donis is known for Painting.

Roberto Donís is one of the protagonists of the change in the language of Mexican plastic arts in recent times. His artistic education began at La Esmeralda where he initially delved into realistic figuration derived from the influence of the Mexican School of Painting at that time. Like his classmates Rafael Coronel and Gilberto Aceves Navarro, among others, he soon became critical and dissatisfied with the academic teaching model. Thanks to his visits to New York and Paris, he absorbed the new proposals of the moment, causing his production to derive from a confluence of symbolic representation, abstract expressionism and Jean Dubuffet's art brut. His work is currently in renowned collections, such as the Rufino Tamayo Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City.
