Ron Schwerin is an American artist born in 1940. He is a painter of young female nudes and sensual still lifes. Awarded the Prix de Rome in 1963, he went on to teach at his alma mater, Pratt Institute, as well as the New York Institute of Technology and the University of Rhode Island. Schwerin has exhibited in group and one man shows at galleries including Allan Stone and O.K. Harris in New York and Zenith in Washington, D.C.. In his nude portraits, Ron Schwerin evokes private moments of feminine languor, charged with an understated, yet powerful, eroticism. Executed in the manner of Balthus, these works are steeped in art history while exemplifying a particularly contemporary mode of beauty and sexuality and allowing the model's distinct personality to emerge.
