Ruby Zahn White

Ruby Zahn White (1899 - 1986) was active/lived in California.  Ruby White is known for Still life and landscpe painting.

Born in San Jose, CA on April 17, 1899. Ruby Zahn graduated from Santa Paula High School and received a B.A. degree from the College of the Pacific. Following study at the CSFA, she taught art at Analy Union High School in Sebastopol, CA and the College of the Pacific. When the latter relocated to Stockton, she moved there in 1925, wed G. Warren White, and retired from teaching to raise a family. In the 1940s she resumed painting and teaching at Stockton High School. Her last years were spent with her daughter in San Diego; she died there on Aug. 19, 1986. Working in oil and watercolor, she painted plein air landscapes with emphasis on historical scenes. Her work was inspired by the scenery of the Pacific Coast, Mother Lode area, and the western states. Member: Stockton Art League (pres. 1940s); SWA. Exh: Smithsonian Inst., 1954, 1956; Calif.
