From 1958, Rudolf had his residence in Rostock, where he initially worked as a freelance artist. Austen began working as a lecturer a the technical school for applied arts in Heiligendamm.

Rudolf focused mainly still lifes, landscapes and cityscapes that he created.


Rudolf Austen had a significant number of solo exhibition that he participated in at home and abroad.
