Thomas R Colman Dibdin

Thomas R. Colman Dibdin (1810 - 1893) was active/lived in United Kingdom.  Thomas Dibdin is known for Painting, illustration.

Thomas Dibdin was born in Bletchworth, Surrey on October 22, 1810.  Thomas Colman Dibdin was an illustrator and painter.  His father was the dramatist, Thomas Dibdin.  His working life began in the General Post Office as a clerk, at seventeen years old.  Eleven years later, at the age of 28, he left that employment to take up painting professionally. 

Dibdin traveled widely throughout Europe, including, France, Germany and Belgium.  Whilst there he drew the old towns and attractive buildings.  He also produced paintings in Gibraltar and India, although the latter was created in England based on detailed sketches.  In 1845 he published a guide to watercolour painting. 

Later, Dibdin invented the process of Chromo-lithography.  He spent quite some time in the Essex area drawing and painting.  He published sketches of houses in the area and produced a large watercolor of the Church in Saffron Walden.  It must   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 1430 characters.]  Artist bio
