Tuna Iquliq

Tuna Iquliq (1935 - 2015) was active/lived in Nunavut / Canada.  Tuna Iquliq is known for Inuit sculpture and drawing.

Tuna Iquliq (1935 – 2015)

A prominent Canadian Inuit sculptor and draftsman* and the father of a family of artists, Tuna Iquliq (aka: Toona Erkoolik [see footnote for more]; Inuit Disc Number*: E2-167) was born near Baker Lake, Northwest Territories (now Nunavut) and died there. He also lived for about two years (1960 – 1962) in Rankin Inlet. For over 50 years his works have been included in numerous important Inuit art exhibitions  including “Treasures from the Commonwealth” held at the Royal Academy, London, England and “Sculpture of the Inuit: Masterworks of the Canadian Arctic”* held at the British Museum. Examples of his sculptures are in the permanent collections of many major museums including the National Gallery of Canada, the Canadian Museum of History, and the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of the American Indian.
