With a strong prior influence of Munch, Picasso and Matisse, Waldemar Sjölander's work went from the figurative to the abstraction with a theme centered on the human being. He was interested in knowing more about the Mexican culture and traveled by some states of the Mexican Republic, among them Oaxaca, Jalisco and Nayarit, where he studied in detail the colors, textures and materials. The plastic elements that he knew during his approach to Mexican art, were very different from those of his country of origin, the reason why in occasions he designed his own materials.
