William Mitcheson Timlin

William Mitcheson Timlin (1892 - 1943) was active/lived in England, South Africa.  William Timlin is known for Landscape painting, book illustration.

The following informtion was submitted in June of 2006 by Jay Mendlovitz:

Born Ashington, Northumberland, England, 1892; died Kimberley, Cape Province, 1943.

Timlin was perhaps the most talented of the architect-artist members of SASA, to which he was elected a Fellow.  He trained at the Armstrong college of Art in Newcastle, following his parents to Kimberley in 1912, where he continued his studies while apprenticed to an architect.  He founded the Kimberley Athenaeum Club's Art Section in 1914, and began exhibiting illustrations and poetic fantasies in pen and water' colour, as well as landscapes in watercolour, pastel and oil.  He did numerous designs for covers and illustrations, as well as commissioned illuminations.  His first-recorded participation in an annual SASA exhibition was in 1917, when he showed six works with titles such as Jealousy, The Bridge Builders - A Fantasy and The Enchantress - A Fantasy.
